Get To Know Gridfinity

3Drawers is built on Gridfinity, an open and modular system for making containers. Learn these core Gridfinity concepts and you'll be off to the races!

It starts with a grid

Every Gridfinity drawer begins with a baseplate: a grid of 42 mm squares (called units), cut to fit your drawer. Everything else is built to sit on this grid.

Sizes come in units

Width and depth units are 42 mm to match the grid squares. Height units are 7 mm, so a 6u-tall bin is exactly as tall as one unit is wide.

Bins sit on the grid

You fill your grid with bins of any size you like, measured in units (half units are okay too!). Each bin drops into the grid and nestles right in place, so nothing slides around. The grid keeps a quiet order to everything.

Bins can stack

The lip around the top of a bin is shaped like the grid, so another bin sits right on it. Stack short bins to use the full height of a deep drawer.

There are all kinds of bins

Bins can be configured in a variety of ways. If you're storing small things like screws you can add a finger scoop to the floor of the bin for easy one-handed grabbing of items. You can add tabs for labels. You can also divide bins into subcompartments or even make bins with custom cutouts to give your tools just the right home.

It's here for the long haul

Gridfinity is incredibly flexible so it can change with you. Don't need that one big bin anymore? Take it out and replace it with some smaller bins, or vice versa. Replace your drawers? Make a new base grid and bring the bins with you. Your Gridfinity setup is yours to keep and is made with 3D printing, so you can always make more bins, and you never have to worry about a system getting discontinued.
